New UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative accredited to GuyanaAug 26, 2016

Georgetown, Guyana, 26 August 2016 - The new UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for the Cooperative Republic of Guyana Ms. Mikiko Tanaka presented her credentials to the Hon. Carl Greenidge, Minister of Foreign Affairs on August 24, 2016 at Takuba Lodge, officially starting her mandate in the country.
Prior to her appointment as the highest ranking UN Official in Guyana, Ms. Tanaka served as UNDP’s Country Director in Yemen (2013-2016), UNDP Country Director in Timor-Leste (2010-2013), Deputy Country Director in Pakistan from 2007-2010 and Deputy Resident Representative in Benin from 2002-2007. The new UN Resident Coordinator, joined UNDP in 1995 and has also served in China, Lao PDR and New York.
Ms. Tanaka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Communication from International Christian University, Japan, a Master of Rural Development Management from Khon Kaen University, Thailand and a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from the University of London, England.
A native of Japan, Ms. Tanaka speaks French and English.
